Installing Intel Power Gadget with Unsupported CPU
You can use Intel Power Gadget to monitor your CPU energy use, speed, and temperature. This is helpful when you're testing your overclock settings or CPU P-States and C-States.
But attempting to install it on my X99 system with an Intel 5930K CPU resulted in the error "Intel® Power Gadget only supports 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors and later."
After some of my readers commented that you could install with Pacifist I decided to give it a try.
First, I used the application Pacifist to extract the whole Power Gadget installer to the folder "~/Downloads/Power Gadget"
I then ran moved the extracted files to the following directories:
-
Power Gadget Folder containing the application, PowerLog and Uninstaller to ~/Applications
-
EnergyDriver.kext
to my /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.12 folder -
IntelPowerGadget.framework
to my /Library/Frameworks folder
I then rebooted and the application worked!
